Ready to play? Well, not quite yet. Remember, I told you that there are certain errors to which beginners tend to be particularly prone.
You're at risk of making the most embarrassing mistake of them all before you even place your first bet. Imagine doing your homework, getting your courage up, and sitting down at your first game. You brandish a twenty-dollar bill and ask the dealer for change-- but nothing happens. The players chuckle while the dealer shakes his head and points to a sign indicating a $25 minimum wager. Now you have two choices: Either dig for more dough and make a bet that's 10 times larger than you wanted to, or snap up your twenty and hustle away with your tail between your legs. Painful. If you do nothing else, condition yourself to check the table minimum before sitting down. You'll find it displayed on a placard positioned somewhere on the table. |
